Why are doctors so obsessed with prescribing antidepressants for anxiety

Maybe because u went in asking for something. You need to be ur own advocate.

Did u try therapy before seeking help from ur doctor? It can be effective with anxiety issues. If u didn't, what did that tell ur doc.

Benzos r addictive in that efficacy wears off & ppl want more & more. SSRIs do not have that type of addiction.

There r all types of doctors out there. Generally, I think GPs should refer everyone with a psych issue to a psychiatrist but that is my opinion. Some GPs automatically prescribe. Some don't. If u do not like yours, go get another. You r responsible for yourself & ur own healthcare.

Well there is big money in it for a start plus most gp is dont have the first clue about mental illness & things like depression / anxiety etc. Running out a quick script on a pc & buzzing for the next patient is all about hurrying up & getting the job over with as soon as they can. Many UK gp is need a full on boot up the arsse man. (Metaphor of course) A good few have had one from me & I've helped to get one taken into court for negligence upon someone I was supporting. Me & gp is r often daggers drawn which suits me fine. They stand to lose. Be careful about prescribed anti depressants, question decisions & medications & stand ur ground with half baked lazy doctors. Remember u can legally access & examine ur medical records anytime & challenge any aspect of treatment u r unhappy about !

because they make more money and thats one les case to think about and less work for more money so think about it you come in they cn give you a minor check up instead of a proper one and say here take theese youl be beter in no time makes sense dont it

The best way to deal with anxiety is to have a very strick daily routine which does include some kind of relaxation routine at the end of the day. For me this is what works best.do not worry to much about it.almost everyone I've ever met has some kind of disorder.even the ones that appear to be perfect.this is crazy-being too perfect. Drink plenty of herbal teas instead or meds.there r a lot made to help u relax, cut all caffeine & definitely get a good walk with ur ipod, walkman, mp3 everynight.

because 80% of the time, the two go hand in hand. and they do not go into full effect for 6-8 weeks and most people do not want to wait that long to get the help or to feel better. and yes, they are addicting. that is why they are called a CONTROLLED med. When your body gets used to anything on a regular basis, it is going to be addicted. and when you cut it out all at once instead of slowly going off of it, you are going to feel like crap in two days.

They are trying to help they are not psychologists.The way people
can help themselves helps also.It comes from within.That is the main thing that really can work.
